Original Kaeru Gaiden

Here’ where it all began. This was my first attempt at making a (somewhat) professional comic book. At the time, I had never drawn digitally, so all the pages were hand drawn on a spiral bound notebook and a black ballpoint Bic pen I picked up from Michael’s. I ended up coloring it by hand using a free app on my iPhone 8 called You Doodle. Yeah…that was ridiculously tedious and painstakingly slow, a fact I became acutely aware of when I finally got an iPad to draw on. It was a wonderful experiment in creativity, and really opened my eyes to the possibilities of pursuing a career in art. And although the world and characters of Kaeru Gaiden have shifted, altered, and changed a bit over the years, I still stand by the fact that for as raw and unrefined as this comic book experiment is, the magic is still there.
