About Josh

Art has been a part of my entire life, whether it’s music, improv comedy, martial arts, Dungeon Mastering, or unquestionably committed awkward dancing. I love all forms of expression, but my first love is drawing. I quickly learned at a young age that a good drawing has the power to manifest laughter and smiles. Such influences as Bill Waterson’s Calvin and Hobbes (my first true obsession and the cartoonist GOAT in my humble opinion), Shel Silverstein, Frank Frazetta, Sam Kieth, Mike Mignola, and Frank Miller really opened my artistic eye and still have a massive influence on my work to this day. I attended art classes throughout school until switching my focus to Kung Fu and photography, but my love and practice of drawing never went away. I like to look back on these years as growing my art skills laterally.

It wasn’t until 2019 that I decided to test out these skills with my first comic book. I incorporated my background and experiences in Kung Fu and comedy with my love of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Hong Kong Cinema. The result was the Original Kaeru Gaiden (check it out in the comics section). Things were going well, then the lockdown of 2020 hit and completely upended reality. I was laid off and sitting at home alone with my cat when I thought why not lean harder into art? That’s when I decided to take the plunge into focusing on making art a profession.

Since then, I’ve made several new comic books including all the artwork on the ongoing series Fellow Robot, worked with businesses and several podcasts producing artwork for promotions and merchandise, numerous bands for flyers and album artwork, and have expanded into both digital and traditional hand drawn commissions. I’m a lover of wonder, creativity, and collaboration, and I’m excited for you all to join me on the journey!
